Models? YAS!

So we did a thing…

Sashay, Shante… Becky and I participated as models in the Methodist Cancer Survivor’s Fashion Show! This post is overdue, but I had to get something up about it, because it is such an AMAZING event. Truth be told, I was NOT amped about walking this year. It has been a minute since the last show due to the pandemic, I have been battling increased fatigue and pain, and have just generally been a little ostrich-ey lately. Hey, it happens. I was also hung up on the fact that I just passed my 5-year remission date  – do I deserve to do this again? Is it selfish? WOAH. Stop right there, girl.

THERE IS NO EXPIRATION DATE ON SURVIVORSHIP.

Let’s back up. The Survivor’s Show supports a fantastic cause, and feels amazing for the survivors who walk in it (and those attending)! If you participate in the full-day extravaganza, they do your hair and makeup, give you runway lessons, style you with a local boutique, there are red carpet photos, and then you have your moment on the runway, which is… indescribable! All proceeds from the night go to Inner Beauty, which is a salon at Methodist Hospital that outfits survivors with wigs, prosthetics, all things to make you feel good about yourself while going through treatment. It is so important and meaningful.

So, we did it. This is my third time participating, and although I wasn’t able to make it to the hair and makeup portion, I popped on a wig (first time not wearing my natural hair – that’s a story for another day – and we had SO MUCH FUN. Becky rocked it with hyping the blog/Instagram page, and it was smiles all around. We both saw many survivors we knew from past shows, we had some great snacks and drinks, and overall, I think we both left feeling completely uplifted – despite it being past our old-lady-grandma bedtimes. Worth it.
